Example: Hebrew Grammatical Search

Goal: To search for the Hebrew word for woman, only in the construct state.

Setup: A grammatically tagged Hebrew text such as HMT-W4 is required.


  1. Open a Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area with HMT-W4.
  2. Click inside the Search Entry box and set the Search for Words or Letters. If there is a search argument in the box, delete it.
  3. On the Search menu, choose Enter Lexical Forms. The Select Lexical Forms dialog box appears.
  4. In the Go to box of the Select Lexical Forms dialog box, type avh.

    Make sure "Use exact lexemeClosed A meaningful linguistic unit that is an item in the vocabulary of a language" is not selected.

  5. Press Enter. The Hebrew letters for "'אשה" appear in the Search Entry box.
  6. On the Search menu, choose Enter Tag>Noun. The Select tag details for NOUN dialog box appears. Proceed as follows:
  7. Class pop-up menu: Choose common.
  8. Gender pop-up menu: Choose feminine.
  9. State pop-up menu: Choose construct.
  10. Click OK. The tag definition is added to the Search Entry box with the @ symbol linking it to the preceding word.

    The Search Entry box should appear as shown below:

  11. Press Enter. All forms of "'shh" in the feminine construct are displayed in the Search tab.
