Sync to Dropbox

Accordance Highlights, User Notes, and User Tools files can be synced to your Dropbox account. In this way, you can easily keep all of these files in common between different devices and computers (no number limit) registered to your Accordance account. You can also choose which Accordance to syncClosed From the word synchronization; the process by which data is moved from a computer to a mobile device such as an iPad or iPhone.

 

For example, you might own a desktop with Mac and/or Windows, a laptop with Mac and/or Windows, and an iPad and/or iPhone. You could take your iPad on a trip and highlight some Text and add a few User Notes. On your way homeClosed Referring to the "home folder", you could sync the iPad to your Dropbox account, making your updated notes available on all your devices.

If you have added the Sync item to your toolbar, clicking the button displays a dialog with the following three options:

  1. Sync with Dropbox: Click to Sync with Dropbox.
  2. Sync with Mobile Device: Click to Sync with a Mobile Device.
  3. Don't ask again: Select this item and one of the first two items to save your preference. The dialog won't appear again unless you change your settings in the Syncing section of the Accordance Preferences.

Sync AutomaticallySync Automatically

  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences. The Preferences dialog box opens.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box, click Syncing in the list of the Preferences dialog box. The Syncing area is displayed (labeled "Syncing settings").
  3. From the Perform Sync pop-up menu, choose Automatically.
  4. If desired, select Automatically Resolve User Note Conflicts to use iPad logic for conflicts between files; for example whichever User Notes file was last edited is synced, rather than asking you to choose which file to sync.
  5. Click OK in the Preferences dialog box.

    If your computers/devices remain on, the update is automatic, approximately every 10 minutes if a change in the files is detected.

Sync ManuallySync Manually

  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.The Preferences dialog box opens.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box, click Syncing in the list of the Preferences dialog box. The Syncing area is displayed (labeled "Syncing settings").
  3. From the Perform Sync pop-up menu, choose Manual.
  4. If desired, select Automatically Resolve User Note Conflicts to use iPad logic for conflicts between files; for example whichever User Notes file was last edited is synced, rather than asking you to choose which file to sync.
  5. Click OK in the Preferences dialog box.
  6. On the Accordance menu, choose Sync with Dropbox. Accordance syncs the User Notes, Highlights, and User Tools files with the files in your Dropbox account.

Accordance must first be linked to your Dropbox account, as detailed above.

  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.The Preferences dialog box opens.
  2. In the Items to Sync area, choose which items you want Synced with your Dropbox account. Available items are User Notes, User Tools, Highlights, Bookmarks, My Places, and Current Session.
  3. Click OK in the Preferences dialog box. The selected items are now synced with your Dropbox account.

When syncing is activated on your desktop computer, syncing is performed behind the scenes, with the following exceptions:

  1. If the User Notes or User Tool file is open when Accordance tries to sync, a dialog box appears advising that the open file is to be updated. In this case you can choose Remind Me Later or Continue.
  2. Remind Me Later: Syncing is delayed; the message box reappears later on.
  3. Continue: The Workspace is closed, syncing is performed, and the Workspace is then reopened.

  4. If there is a conflict between User Notes on two devices. For example, a specific note (such as Genesis 1:1) has been edited on both a device and the desktop since the last time the files were synced. In this case, you can choose which User Note to keep.
  5. Select the User Note you want to keep and click Continue.
  6. If you select Handle remaining conflicts automatically, the most recently edited User Note is kept.

  7. Remember My Place Message: If you have chosen to sync the Current Session on one of your devices/computers with Dropbox, you may receive the following message when starting Accordance on another device/computer. Simply click Load Session to load the synced sessionClosed The arrangement of screen elements when working with Accordance and continue working.
