Amplify To and From the Atlas

You can link the Atlas to texts and tools by amplifying to or from the Atlas.

To find any place name in the Bible text or one of the tools:

  1. Select the site name in the Bible text or a tool (for example, Jerusalem).
  2. Click Backgrounds (Click to select the desired background for an Atlas map) in the Library and select the desired map background. A new Atlas tab opens displaying that site or name.
  3. You can also use the AmplifyClosed To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. menu (Amplify>Atlas>XXX, where XXX is the name of the atlas background), or the shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element (right-click, Lookup>Atlas).
  4. When amplifying to the Atlas:

  • You can change any of the pop-up menu settings just like any other Atlas tab.
  • The Atlas names usually follow the NRSV and NASB spellings, but Accordance automatically adjusts for spelling variations in the NIV and KJV.
  • If the name occurs in more than one place on the map, all the names are displayed.
  • Click Find to open the Find dialog box and look for a specific location by looking at the qualifiers after duplicate names in the list.
  • The extra names are displayed and function in the same way as those selected with a Shift-click or found by the Find button on the Atlas tab.

Amplify From the AtlasAmplify From the Atlas

You can also select any name on the Atlas and amplify to a Bible text, tool, or Search option on the Library or Amplify menu.

  • Accordance automatically searches the Text or Tool for the selected name, and displays the results in a new tab.
  • The tab is recyclable; it is used again if a search is performed in the same moduleClosed Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource.
  • Double-click a name on the Atlas to automatically amplify to the default English dictionary.
  • To set the default tool, on the Display menu, choose Select Set Atlas Display, or press Ctrl+T ).
  • Accordance searches for the name as it appears on the map (without the qualifiers which appear on the Find list, and ignoring punctuation).
  • Example 1: If you select Caesarea in the Atlas, both Caesarea and Caesarea Philippi are found in the text.
  • Example 2: If you select Caesarea Philippi in the Atlas, only Caesarea Philippi is found in the text.
  • Variations in spelling between different Bible translations are accounted for where possible. However, variations within one text may not always appear.
  • Example 1: Clicking on Hai in Gen 12:8 of the KJV finds Ai in the Atlas
  • Example 2: Clicking on Ai in the Atlas and amplifying to the KJV finds Ai but not Hai.
  • Use the Atlas shortcut menu (right-click) to find your selection in the desired Texts or Tools.
