Set Parsing Display Dialog Box for Tagged Texts

Prerequisites for use: A Parsing tab is the activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element tab. Grammatically tagged text is being parsed.  

Use: The Set Parsing Display dialog box is used to control the content and display of the active Parsing tab.

Description: This dialog box is dynamic; different options are available depending on whether text with Key numbers, or grammatically tagged text is parsed. This topic covers use of the Set Parsing Display dialog box for grammatically tagged texts.

Changes affect only the active tab. If you want your changes applied to all future Parsing tabs for grammatically tagged texts, click Use As Default.

  1. Select several words in a grammatically tagged text.
  2. On the toolbar, click Parsing (). A Parsing tab opens.
  3. Do one of the following to open the Set Parsing Display dialog box for Keyed numbers:
  4. From the Display menu, choose Set Parsing Display.
  5. Right-click anywhere on the Parsing display and choose Set Parsing Display from the shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element that appears.
  6. Press Ctrl+T .

Font size Pop-up Menu: Choose the font size used for text in the Parsing tab. The default setting is Small. You can choose from seven different sizes ranging from Very Small to Very Large.

Tag display Pop-up Menu: Used to choose which words in the selected text should be parsed in the Parsing tab. The default setting is Full Words. Available options are:

  • Full Words: A full word description is displayed for each grammatical tag.
  • Abbreviations: Tag details are displayed using common abbreviations details.
  • Tag Code: Displays only the tag code for each word. The first letter of the tag code is the part of speech. The rest of the code follows the order of the Tag Details dialog box for that part of speech.

Note

You can reset the order in which grammatical tags such as number and gender appear via the Arrange Tags area of the Preferences dialog box.

Parse Pop-up Menu:

Show Area: These options define what information is displayed in the Parsing tab. By default, all options except English transliteration are selected. You can choose to display the Lexical form, Root form, Tags, Gloss, Syntax, and English transliteration.

Parse only the following: The available items vary depending on the text language (Greek or Hebrew). These items are dimmed unless Parts of speech is chosen from the Parse pop-up menu. Select the parts of speech you want to parseClosed to grammatically describe a word in a sentence, including the lexical (dictionary form, i.e. Lemma) identification of the part of speech, grammatical form, syntactic function, etc. from the text selection; all other words in the selection are ignored.
