Find Name on Timeline Dialog Box

Prerequisites for use: A Timeline tab is the activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element tab.     

Use: The Find Name on Timeline dialog box is used to find a specific item on the Timeline.

Description:This dialog box lets you filter out names, to quickly locate the desired item on the Timeline. It initially opens with all the Standard Items displayed in the list, with [ALL] selected in the Items and Regions pop-up menus. It remembers the settings last used when reopened.

Do one of the following:

  • In the active Timeline tab, click Find (Find button on the top left of the Timeline tab).
  • Press Ctrl+F .

  1. Click Find (Find button on the top left of the Timeline tab) on the Timeline tab. The Find Name on Timeline dialog box appears.
  2. Enter a name in the Go to box, or select a name in the list.

    You can limit the items available in this list via options on the right side of this dialog box.
  3. Click OK. The Timeline scrolls and zooms to center on the name. The item name is displayed in the Extra item style.
  4. Repeat these steps to find additional items on the Timeline.
  5. You can also double-click a name in the list to find it on the Timeline.

Go to box: Type the first letters of the name in the box to jump to that part of the alphabet in the List of Timeline Items.

List of Timeline Items: Displays all item names on the Timeline in alphabetical order. This includes the political periods shown in the Region Layer and the five classes of items shown in the Item Layer.

  • The list displays only items appropriate for current date scheme displayed in the tab.
  • Each name in the list is unique, so a qualifier is added to distinguish, for example, a person's life from his reign, or the person from the book.
  • If there is an alternate name for a person, it appears after the main name, separated by a comma.

Show on List Area: Options in this area act as a filter to limit items displayed in the List of Timeline Items, for quickly locating the desired item. Selections from the pop-up menus affect which items are displayed in the list.

  • Show Pop-up Menu: Limits items in the list to the selected class items, or Political items.
  • Items Pop-up Menu: Choose either Standard Items or User Items. Selecting User Items displays only Custom items that meet the criteria chosen in the other pop-up menu.
  • Region Pop-up Menu: Limits items in the list to those which belong to the selected region.
