Troubleshooting
Accordance offers certain enhancements with regard to the handling of files for User Notes and User Tools. For example, if you have two User Notes or User Tools installed that differ only by the appropriate Accordance file extension, the version without a file extension is renamed by appending “2” to the installed name subject to the 31 MacRoman character limit. If the installed name is greater than 29 MacRoman characters in length, then the installed name is truncated so that “2” can be appended to it.
Accordance uses Bonjour to find and create the network connection between the Mac and your mobile device ( iPad®, iPhone®, or iPod touch®). The device broadcasts its availability and the Mac application searches for this broadcast on the local network. Failure of the Mac app to see your mobile device could be for any of the following reasons:
- Your computer and device must both be connected to the same local network over WiFi. Make sure the name of the WiFi network they are connected to is the same. To do so:
- macOS: Go to the System Preferences>Network Pane. Verify the Network Name for the Airport connection is correct.
- iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch: Go to the device Settings app and locate the network name in the Wi-Fi table row.
- Next, check whether or not the MacOS X firewall (or third party firewall) is blocking the incoming Bonjour broadcast from the device. You might try turning off the firewall (if it is on) and see if desktop version of Accordance can see the device broadcast. (You may need to restart desktop version of Accordance and/or reboot the Mac for this to take effect.)
- Avoid using both an active Airport connection and a wired (Ethernet) connection at the same time. This can sometimes confuse Bonjour. If this is the case, try turning off the wired connection and see if the Mac can now see the device.
- You can download a utility called "Bonjour Browser" (which you can find via Google). This checks to see if the device broadcast is seen by your Mac. After you tap the sync toolbar icon on the device, you should see _accordsync_tcp service entry and the name of your device in the list.
- Some third party wireless access points or routers are not setup to support Bonjour by default.
- It is often easiest and fastest to set up a temporary "computer-to-computer" wireless network. This Apple Document (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3771) describes how to do this on Lion, but applies to earlier OS as well. A password for this network is not required.
Blank or garbled rows in the Library window of Accordance for iOS may cause a crash when syncing. You can remove them like any other row in the Library View. Either swipe across the row (hit the Delete button to confirm the deletion), or enter Edit mode using the "Edit" button in the top bar of the Library View, tap on the delete switch for the row in question, and then confirm the delete. Remember to tap the "Done" button in the top bar of the Library View when you are done editing.
Open the system Settings on your device and scroll to Accordance in the Applications area. These settings apply to the next restart of the app, and default back to OFF.
Remove Saved Session: Deletes all session information. Use this option if Accordance fails to start up.
Reset User Content: Deletes all currently installed User Notes, Tools, and Highlight Files. If your content is synced with Dropbox, the synced status for these files is also forgotten, so that the next sync with Dropbox reinstalls the content of the remote Dropbox folder. Use this option to resolve issues with suspected file corruption.
Clear Download Cache: Removes the temporary folders used for Easy Install, module updates, and syncing with the desktop. Use this option if unable to complete a sync or download procedure.
Reset Spotlight Indexes: When turned ON, resets the Spotlight indexes. Use this option if Spotlight fails to return results of a topic or reference search.
Reset Interlinear Settings: When turned ON, deletes customization information from the Interlinear database. Use this option if experiencing crashes when adjusting interlinear items.
If you get a repeatable crash, please send Support the details of how it happens. If we cannot replicate it we may ask you to send us the crash report from the device, according to these instructions (posted on our Forum).
