Example: Define an English Construct

Goal: To find the words man or Adam when they are translated from the Hebrew word "adam" and occur in the first five words of the verse.

Setup: One of the Key Number texts installed, such as KJVS, NAS95S, or NIV-G/K.


  1. Open a Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area with a Key Number text: KJVS, NAS95S, or NIV-G/K.
  2. Set the search for Words and press Tab to select the contents of the Search Entry box if any search criteria has been entered.
  3. On the File menu, choose New Construct>Simple. A Simple Construct tab opens in a new zone.

    The entry box of the Search tab should now read:

  4. Define the search in the Simple Construction tab as follows:
  5. Drag the WORD item from the palette to the top of the first element column. The Select Words dialog box appears.
  6. In the Select Words dialog box, choose Adam and Man and click OK.
  7. Drag the KEY item into the same column, beneath the WORD item. The Select Key Numbers dialog box appears.
  8. In the Select Key Numbers dialog box, choose H0120 and H0121 and click OK.

    For the NIV-G/K choose H00132, H00134, and H00136.

  9. Drag the PLACE item to the bottom of the same column. A dialog box appears with two empty boxes.
  10. Enter 1 in the first box, 5 in the second box, and click OK.

    The construct should look like this:

  11. Press Enter or Return in the Search Entry box of the Search tab or click Search at the bottom of the Simple Construct tab. The hits are displayed in the Search tab.
  12. "Man" and "Adam" are highlighted when the text meets your conditions.
