Work in the Timeline Tab

Timelines are usually displayed in their own zone in a Timeline tab.

To open a Timeline tab:

The displayed timeline is composed of a layer of items (such as people, events, and writings) over a background layer of geographic regions and political periods. The pop-up menus at the top are used to change the current layers.

The Timeline is supplied with a number of pre-defined layers. The default settings when a new tab is opened are supplied with the Timeline, but you can change them at any time.

Various display options are available and can be set individually for the current timeline tab:

1 Region Layer Pop-up Menu Displays the currently displayed Region Layer(s); used to select a different Region Layer
2 Item Layer Pop-up Menu Displays the currently displayed Item Layer(s); used to select a different Item Layer
3 Zoom Buttons
  • Used to zoom in (Timeline Zoom In) or (Timeline Zoom Out) out of the Timeline area
4 Date Pop-up Menu Displays the date scheme applied to the displayed timeline; available options are Critical or Conservative
5 Recycle Button Turns blue when the Timeline is recyclable
6 Class Legends Legend to classes displayed in the Timeline area
7 Time Scale Displays the timescale for the Timeline area
8 Region Labels Displays the name of the region to which that part of the Timeline area applies
9 Timeline Area Displays the Timeline itself
10 Archeological Periods Displays the archeological period to which that part of the Timeline area applies
11 Scroll bars Used to scroll up, down, right, and left through the Timeline area
12 Instant Details Displays the Instant Details for the selected item in the Timeline
13 Hide Interface Hide the Zoom and Find buttons, and the Class Legends
14 Details for Selected Item Displays the details for the item selected in the Timeline area
15 Find Button
  • Opens the Find Name on Timeline dialog box for locating a name on the Timeline (Find on Timeline button)
16 Report button Opens a detailed report for the timespan of the selected item.
