Preferences: Citation
Note The preferences in this section refer only to the formatting of citations from a Text module Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource. See Preferences: Bibliography for the formatting of citations from a Tool module. |
Prerequisites for use: None; this dialog box can be opened at any time.
Use: Used to define the format of text and references when copied as a citation. The format is only applied to text when copied as a citation via the Edit menu (Copy As), the shortcut menu Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element (Copy As>Citation), or using the shortcut keys (
Open: Click Citation in the list of the Preferences dialog box. The Citation area is displayed (labeled "Text citation format settings").
Options in the Citation Area of the Preferences Dialog Box
A citation usually groups the text together, with a separate reference covering the included verses. The Citation preferences offer several options for tailoring the citation to your specific needs.
Content Area: Used to set the format for display of the verses of text.
- Markers boxes: Enter the character to appear before and after the body of the text. A single character is normally entered, but up to seven are accepted.
- Show as Pop-up Menu: Used to specify the layout of verses in the text.
- Paragraphs: The text of contiguous verses is shown as a continuous stream, starting a new line only for a new paragraph.
- Paragraphs With Space: The same as Paragraphs, except a blank line is placed between each paragraph.
- Separate Verses: Each verse is displayed on a separate line.
- Separate With Space: The same as Separate Verses except that a blank line is placed between each verse.
- References Only: This item is dimmed as it does not apply to citations.
Note Paragraph display dims the Above Verse and After Verse items in the Format pop-up menu (Content References area), and vice-versa, as they are mutually incompatible. |
Note The following options may not apply to all Text citations. When selected, these options are applied to the citation, where applicable. |
- Copy text as one block: When selected, disables the Show as pop-up menu (Content area) and copies all the text as a single paragraph, including separate paragraphs and discontinuous verses.
- Split discontiguous verses: When selected, discontinguous verses will be separated by a space, and the citation information added to each verse individually.
- Suppress poetry: When selected, removes the short line formatting applied to poetry, so that all text appears as prose.
- Hide superscripts: When selected, displays text without the super-scripted numbers and letters that refer to footnotes.
- Scale font size to: When selected, resets the font size to the size specified in the pop-up menu.
Content References Area: Used to format verse references within the text. The initial verse reference is always omitted when copying as citation.
- Markers Boxes: Used to define the markers that appear before and after each verse reference.
- Show as Pop-up Menu: Used to specify how the references should appear. Available options are:
- Above Verse: The reference is placed on a line by itself, with the text of the verse beginning on the following line.
- Before Verse: The reference is placed at the beginning of the first line of the verse text.
- After Verse: The reference is placed at the end of the last line of the verse text.
- Omit Entire Reference: Displays the text of verses without references.
- Omit Book and Chapter: Displays only the verse number. The book name and chapter number appear only for the first verse of each book and chapter, respectively.
- Omit Book Name Only: Displays only the chapter and verse numbers. The book name is displayed only at the start of each book.
- Abbreviate book name: When selected, displays the abbreviated book name. This option is only available if Before verse is selected; otherwise it is dimmed.
- Ignore reference style: When selected, makes the verse references plain style like the text.
Citation Reference Area: Options in this area format the citation before or after the text.
- Markers: Used to define the markers that appear before and after each verse reference.
- Markers enclose: Used to determine when the entire citation should be enclosed in markers, or just the text title.
- Entire Citation: When selected, the entire citation is inclosed in markers.
- Text Title Only: When selected, only the Text title is enclosed in markers.
- Location Pop-up Menu: Specifies where the references for the citation should appear.
- Above Citation: Places the reference on a separate line above the text.
- Before Citation: Places the reference at the beginning of the first line of the text.
- After Citation: Places the reference at the end of the text.
- Below Citation: Places the full reference on a separate line below the text.
- No Reference: No reference is given.
- Abbreviate book name: When selected, displays the abbreviated book name.
- Include text abbreviation: When selected, includes an abbreviation for the name of the text as part of the reference, i.e. "Gen. 1:1 (KJV)."
- Use full text title: The full title of the Text is used in place of the abbreviation.
- Include 'accord://' location URL: Creates a URL link to the search location in Accordance.
- When copying as a citation a Text, the Location URL is embedded in the verse reference.
