Preferences: Citation

Note

The preferences in this section refer only to the formatting of citations from a Text moduleClosed Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource. See Preferences: Bibliography for the formatting of citations from a Tool module.

Prerequisites for use: None; this dialog box can be opened at any time.

Use: Used to define the format of text and references when copied as a citation. The format is only applied to text when copied as a citation via the Edit menu (Copy As), the shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element (Copy As>Citation), or using the shortcut keys (Alt+Ctrl+C).

Open: Click Citation in the list of the Preferences dialog box. The Citation area is displayed (labeled "Text citation format settings").

Options in the Citation Area of the Preferences Dialog Box

A citation usually groups the text together, with a separate reference covering the included verses. The Citation preferences offer several options for tailoring the citation to your specific needs.

Content Area: Used to set the format for display of the verses of text.

Note

Paragraph display dims the Above Verse and After Verse items in the Format pop-up menu (Content References area), and vice-versa, as they are mutually incompatible.

Note

The following options may not apply to all Text citations. When selected, these options are applied to the citation, where applicable.

Content References Area: Used to format verse references within the text. The initial verse reference is always omitted when copying as citation.

Citation Reference Area: Options in this area format the citation before or after the text.

Note

  • Font and style information are preserved when copying from Accordance except when overridden in this dialog box, but not when copying the citation via the Accordance widget which always pastes plain text.
  • The Yehudit font is not fully supported in conjunction with the citation feature. You can paste a Hebrew citation into an Edit window in Accordance using Yehudit, but you should choose separate verses in the Show as pop-up menu. Outside Accordance the citation is designed to work together with conversion to Unicode fonts.
  • Use SBL Standard notation in the Appearances area of the Preferences dialog box to convert verse references to standard SBL abbreviations for display and exportClosed to convert a file to another format for use in another application..
  • When copying as citation (or references), a space is automatically added between the number and a book name so that 2Samuel becomes 2 Samuel.
