Add New Note

The procedure for adding a note to a verse is quite straightforward. However, familiarize yourself with the User Notes Tab preferences (Preferences dialog box, User Notes Tab area), since these settings affect how the Edit Window is opened if working with more than one User Notes file.

To add a new note on a verse:

  1. Click or select text in a verse.
  2. Right-click and select Edit User Note from the shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element. A new Edit window opens with the verse reference in the window, and the cursor flashing on the line below.
  3. The new Edit window opens on top of the tab or pane from which it was opened.
  4. You can also move the cursor along the margin of verses; a Pencil icon appears (). Click on the Pencil icon to add or edit a User Note.
  5. You can also use the shortcut key, +U.
  6. If you have created more than one User Notes file, a drop-down box opens listing the available User Notes files. Choose the desired file.
  7. If you try to add a User Note without selecting a verse, a dialog box opens and allows you to choose the verse to which the note should be added.

    Hint

    If a note has not yet been added to a verse and you have you created more than one User Notes file, select a word or two in the verse to which you want to add the note, then click AmplifyClosed To select words or a reference and search for the selection in the text or tool of your choice. You can select the resource in the Library or Amplify menus. A triple-click is a shortcut which amplifies to the top tool of the relevant category. Rest the cursor over the module name in the Library to display the Amplify button. Click to amplify to the module. next to the desired Notes file in the Library This icon identifies the My Notes area of the Library. The User Notes file opens in an Edit window.

     

    You can also right-click on the pencil icon () to choose the destination User Notes file.

  8. Type in, or copy and paste your notes, as desired. When done, click Update. The note is saved and a page icon () appears next to the verse in the Bible text.
  9. Use the Edit window toolbar to format the new note.
  10. Use the toolbar Make Link button to create links to Scripture, the Web, files, or Accordance resources.
  11. Use the toolbar Auto Link button to automatically create links to properly formatted text.
  12. The new note is automatically saved if you navigate to another verse using the Next Note (Next button) or Previous Note (Previous button) arrows.
  13. You can also type notes in Hebrew or Greek using the default Accordance keyboards (set in the Greek & Hebrew area of the Preferences dialog box). The keyboard is quickly accessible via the Edit window toolbar or the following shortcut keys for Greek and Hebrew, respectively:Shift+ +G and Shift+ +H. You can also use the Macintosh international keyboard in the menu bar.
  14. If you are working with older User Notes files (not upgraded), the text entered is displayed using Accordance fonts (and not in Unicode).
  15. If you are working with new or Upgraded User Notes, the original languages are always displayed in Unicode and you can choose the Unicode font and style for Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, Arabic, and Coptic/Uncial, in the Unicode Display area of the Preferences dialog box.
  16. Click the Next Note (Next button) or Previous Note (Previous button) arrows to scroll the Edit window to the next saved note.

    Note

    If no text is entered and you go on to the next verse, the empty note is not saved.

  17. To create a note on the next or previous verse within the Edit window, press the Add Next (Next button) or Add Previous (Previous button) arrows.
  18. When done, click Update to save your changes and then close the Edit Window.
