Using Links in Tools

When reference works are formatted for use in Accordance, certain links are included in the text. All links are displayed in a "hypertext" style and color, which is blue underline by default, but can be changed for each tool. When the cursor is over a link, it changes to a magnifying glass.

The Instant Details displays details of many linked items in a Tools tab. These may include Scripture references (first 8 verses), abbreviations, bibliographical information, or footnotes.

The behavior of the different types of links in Accordance is explained below.

Scripture Reference LinksScripture Reference Links

Clicking on a Scripture link opens a new Text tab displaying only the text of the reference.

  • If a recyclable Text tab is already open, the content of that tab is updated to show the hypertext references displayed with the current settings of that tab. If the tab is set to Show all text, the verses in the reference are bookmarked.
  • You can open a series of Scripture references in one tab:

  • To open a series of references in a paragraph, click inside the first reference, drag and release the mouse inside the last reference. All references in the series are displayed in a single new tab.
  • To open all references in a paragraph +Click on any verse reference. All references in the paragraph are displayed in a single new tab.
  • To select and copy references, click outside the first reference, then drag and release the mouse outside the last reference. You can now copy the references as you would any other text in Accordance.

Internal LinksInternal Links

Internal links refer to other parts of the same tool including cross-references to other entries and footnote references to and from footnotes in the text.

Click the reference link to jump to the entry indicated in the cross-reference.

Note

These internal links also work in a Reference tool pane of a Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area; the Prior and Next buttons appear and have the same functionality.

Display LinksDisplay Links

Display links open a new Picture zone to show the details of a picture or table.

Picture Thumbnail Links

A picture thumbnail link

  • Some tools include images, charts, or maps. The cursor changes to show the word PNG when it is over a reference to an image ().
  • An optional "thumbnail" image appears beside the reference to an image of a picture, chart, or map.
  • You can change the display of picture links in Accordance via the Set Tool Display dialog box, via the Picture pop-up menu. The default display is Small thumbnails. You can choose Medium or Large thumbnails, or have the picture replaced by a small icon (). The icon allows faster scrolling of the tab, and does not introduce additional spacing in the text.
  • Neither the thumbnails nor the icon are included when text is printed or copied to another tab.
  • You can drag-and-drop the thumbnail of the image from the Tools tab to a document in another application. The image will appear in the document as a full size PNG image.
  • Picture thumbnail links open the image in a new Pictures zone.

Table Links

Some tools include tables in the text.

External LinksExternal Links

Newer Tool modules may have external links, as follows:

  • Standard URLs link to web pages and files outside of Accordance. These open your default browser to display the link, or the relevant software to open the file.
  • Links to other Tool modules within Accordance open the Text or Tool and search for the cited text or article.
