Use the Selection Tool

The Selection tool is used to select any object on the user layer for the purpose of changing its characteristics, or moving it. To automatically return to the Selection tool, after using another tool, click anywhere without dragging.

Select Objects on the AtlasSelect Objects on the Atlas

  • To select one object on the Atlas, click on it.
  • To select several objects on the Atlas, press Shift as you click each additional object.
  • To select all objects in the layer, do one of the following:
  • On the Edit menu, choose Select All.
  • Press +A ).
  • If the object has a fill, click anywhere inside the object to select it; if it has no fill, click the border line to select the object.
  • Drag-selecting a box with the Selection tool selects all objects overlapped by the box. An invisible rectangle encloses all the points and handles of any object, and in the case of curves and angled lines may extend a distance from the object itself. If the box overlaps any part of the invisible rectangle when you drag-select, objects may be unintentionally selected.

A selected object appears with square points at the ends or corners.

  • To change the position of all selected objects, drag an object between the points.
  • To remove all selected objects, press Delete.
  • To duplicate selected objects, hold down on Opt+ while dragging the selected objects.
  • To bring the selected objects to the front of the layer, click Front () on the User Layer palette. This is useful for rearranging objects from back to front.

Add PicturesAdd Pictures

Pictures can be pasted onto a User Layer when copied from another part of Accordance or another program.

Hint

To copy a photo in Accordance at the size you are displaying it, select it and copy the selection rather than copying it directly.

  1. Copy a selection from a Atlas tab or Pictures tab in Accordance, or from another drawing program, by doing one of the following:
  2. In Accordance: On the Edit menu, choose Copy.
  3. In Accordance or another program: Press +C.
  4. In the Atlas tab (Edit Mode), press +V. The picture object is added to the User Layer.
  5. Format the picture object by doing any of the following:
  6. Resize it by dragging a corner handle.
  7. Add a frame and fill by selecting the picture object and selecting the appropriate options on the User Layer palette.
  8. Restore the picture to its original size (irrespective of the current map magnification) by clicking a corner handle and pressing Shift. This usually produces a cleaner image.

Rotate ObjectsRotate Objects

You cannot directly rotate objects on the User Layer. However, you can achieve this effect by rotating an object (such as text or a picture) in another software application. You can then copy and paste the object onto the User Layer. This method is useful for obtaining rotated text, as is used for region names (although the text may be ragged).
