Preferences: Speech

Prerequisites for use: None; this dialog box can be opened at any time.             

Use: Used to define the voice used, and speed of reading for the Speech option accessed via the toolbar.

Options in the Speech Area of the Preferences Dialog Box

Language Area: Opens a pop-up menu for selecting the desired voice for audible reading of text. Voice rates can be set individually for each of the four language options.

• Available selections depend on the voices installed on your system. You can select any voice from the menu.
• “Novelty” voices and “Legacy” voices will now be separated into two separate groups in the menu.

Voice speed slider: Used to set the voice speed. St

Voice Testing Area: Options to listen to the voices speak a test phrase and change the speed of the voice.

• Test Voice: Opens a pop-up menu for selecting the desired voice for audible reading of text.
• Voice speed slider: Used to set the voice speed.
• Test Phrase: Default phrases change based on the language selected.
• Use Default test phrase: When unchecked, a custom Test Phrase can be entered.
• Try Voice: Click to hear the Test Voice speak the Test Phrase at the selected speed.
