Example: Use HITS Command to Search Tagged Texts

Goal: To compare the books of 2 John and 3 John

Many more permutations of searches using the HITS command are possible than are shown here.

  1. Open a Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area with the GNT-T or GNT28-T as the default text.
  2. Find all words in 2 John by entering [RANGE 2John] <AND> * in the Search Entry box. Press Enter or Return to perform the search (245 hits).
  3. Open a second Search tab with the GNT-T as the default text.
  4. Search 1: Find all words in 3 John that were also found in 2 John by entering [RANGE 3John] <AND> [HITS GNT-T] in the Search Entry box. Press Enter or Return to perform the search (143 hits).

The search result is the lemmas in 3 John that were also found in 2 John.

  5. Search 2: In the second Search tab, change the argument to [RANGE 3John] <AND> *@-[HITS GNT-T] to find the lemmas unique to 3 John (76 hits).
  6. Search 3: In the second Search tab, add =i to change the argument to [RANGE 3John] <AND> *@-[HITS=i GNT-T].
  7. This finds the inflected forms unique to 3 John (126 hits).
  8. Notice that πάντων is added to the hits: 2 John includes and πάντες but not πάντων.
  9. Search 4: In the second Search tab, change the argument to [RANGE 3John] <AND> *@-[HITS=t GNT-T] to find the grammatical tags unique to 3 John.

Note that is no longer highlighted as there are other genitive prepositions in 2 John.
