Using the Instant Details

The Instant Details display a great deal of information, depending on the text or item the cursor is passing over in the activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element tab. You can view the Instant Details attached to a Workspace, detached as a floating window, or as a popover. Viewing as a popover is set via the Instant Details area of the Preferences dialog box.

You can copy information in the Instant Details panel and set preferences that impact how it is displayed. For Biblical texts only, you can also display the first article of the first text tool listed in the text tool pop-up menus (Texts area of the toolbar). You can also open a dictionary for the selected word in the Instant Details.

To open the Instant Details do one of the following:

Attach/Detach Instant DetailsAttach/Detach Instant Details

By default, the Instant Details is displayed attached to each Workspace.

  • To detach the Instant Details to a floating window, click the Detach button (Click to detach and turn into a floating window).
  • If the Instant Details panel is detached from the Workspace, all Instant Details are closed in all other open Workspaces and the Instant Details change as the cursor moves between Workspaces.
  • Click the close button at the top right of the floating Instant Details to close the window.
  • Click and drag on the title bar of the floating Instant Details to move the window.

Note

Instant Details will appear detached if the maximum number of zones in a Workspace has already been reached.

Copy Instant DetailsCopy Instant Details

The information displayed in the Instant Details can be copied and pasted into your User Notes or another application.

This can be done via the Instant Details, or via the text as displayed in the Search tabClosed The core tab used to search Bible texts, it consists of a search entry area and a search results area or another tab.

To copy the information via the Instant Details:To copy the information via the Instant Details:
  1. Make sure the desired information is displayed in the Instant Details.
  2. Press Shift. Pressing Shift keeps the content of Instant Details displayed for a word, regardless of future cursor movement. You can then click the Copy button ().
  3. On the Instant Details, click Copy (). The content of the Instant Details is copied to the clipboard.
To copy Instant Details information via a Search or other tab:To copy Instant Details information via a Search or other tab:
  1. Make sure the desired information is displayed in the Instant Details.
  2. Right-click over the word or item for which the Instant Details are displayed. A short-cut menu appears.
  3. On the shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element, choose Copy As>Instant Details. The content of the Instant Details is copied to the clipboard.

Change Font SizeChange Font Size

To increase or decrease text size, click the Font Size buttons (Click to change font size) on the Instant Details.

Function of the Orientation button (Click this button to change orientation of the pane or Instant Details) depends on how the Instant Details is displayed.

  • If the Instant Details is attached, the Orientation button toggles the pane between a horizontal and vertical orientation.
  • If the Instant Details is detached, the Orientation button toggles the position of the title bar between the left side and the top.

The Instant Details can display the first relevant article of a Tool normally opened in a new tab with a triple-click. When working with Key number text, you can also view the top English dictionary entry in the Instant Details, along with the Key number entry. In both cases, the count for the number of times the word is used is displayed, as appropriate.

Note

Because there is no Arabic dictionary currently available in Accordance, the "Arabic NT with Strong's" moduleClosed Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource only displays the Key number entry.

  • Press Ctrl with the cursor hovering over the word or reference in a text pane. The first relevant article is displayed in the Instant Details. The relevant article depends on the type of word over which the cursor hovers.

    As long as Ctrl is held down, the article in the Instant Details is updated with cursor movement.
  • To keep the same article displayed in the Instant Details, regardless of the subsequent cursor movement, press Shift.
  • To return to the original display of the Instant Details, release the Ctrl key.

If several articles are found for the word, only the first article is displayed. Reference tools display the last article (specific to the verse). Only the first few paragraphs of long articles are displayed, since scrolling is not available in the Instant Details.

For Greek and Hebrew lexicons, Accordance attempts to find the correct entry if more than one exists for the selected word.

Note

The various triple-click modifiers do not affect the Instant Text Tool look-up.
