Editing User Tools

A User Tool is written or edited in the User Tool Edit window. The Edit window is most quickly opened by trying to type in the User Tool tab.

When you open a User Tool in an Edit window, the date and time it was last edited is displayed in the top right of the Edit window, under the toolbar.

Enter text in the Edit window by typing or by copying and pasting. Use the Edit window shortcut menuClosed Also known as a contextual menu, acessed by right-clicking (or pressing Ctrl+Click, Mac only) over a screen element to search for and replace text in the same manner as when editing a User Note. In fact, editing a User Tool is quite similar to editing User Notes, with only a few minor differences.

Note

The Edit window shortcut menu also displays an item to check spelling. This option is currently not available.

Fonts in User Tool Edit WindowsFonts in User Tool Edit Windows

Since font settings can be changed in a User Tool tab, certain standard display settings are used in the Edit window. As a result the text may not appear in the Edit window exactly as it does in the User Tool tab.

  • The Font pop-up menu lets you choose between the default Helvetica font and Helena, Yehudit, Rosetta (transliteration), MSS, Sylvanus, Peshitta, Salaam, and Lakhish fonts. This option will only appear in Non-unicode User Tools.
  • In the Edit window, Roman text is always displayed in the Helvetica font. You can change the display font in the User Tool tab.
  • In the Edit window the default font size is 12 point. Selecting a smaller or larger size for some text scales the font in proportion to the current base font size in the User Tool tab
  • Use the toolbar at the top of the Edit window to format text, create links, or insert pictures in the same manner as for User Notes. You can also right-click and use the shortcut menu to format text, or access the same options via the Display menu.

SavingSaving

User Tools can be saved in a few ways.

  • Use the Next (Next button) or Previous (Previous button) arrows to jump to the next article in the Edit window and save any changes made to the current article.
  • At the bottom of the Edit window, click Update.
  • In both cases a progress bar shows the time remaining to update the text.
  • Any open User Tool tabs are updated at the same time.
  • Click the X at the top right of the Edit window. A message appears asking if you want to save the User Tool.
