The Find/Replace Dialog Box

Prerequisites for use: One of the following Tabs or Panes must be activeClosed The application, window, tab, or other screen element which is currently being used; sometimes called the "front" or "frontmost" screen element: Research, Text, Tool, User Note, User Tool, Paper, or Stack. An edit window must be active to utilize the "Replace" function.

Use: The Find/Replace dialog box is used to search for a word or phrase in a Research, Text, Tool, User Note, User Tool, Paper, or Stack, and text in an Edit window can also be replaced in a manner similar to that used in other applications. A Find result is displayed in a yellow rectangle with drop shadow rather than the normal selection color.

  1. Open one of the following Tabs or Panes: Research, Text, Tool, User Note, User Tool, Paper, Stack, or an edit window for User Tools or User Notes.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Right-click in the Edit window and choose Find/Replace.
  4. Press Ctrl+F.
  5. On the Search menu, choose Find/Replace.

The Find/Replace dialog box is similar to those used in other applications.

Note

The language field of the Find/Replace fields will automatically adjust to the language of the tab or pane being searched.

  1. Find box: Used to enter or paste in the text to find.
  2. Replace box: Used to enter or paste in the text to replace the text with.

    Leave the box blank to delete the found text.
  3. Choose the desired language by clicking on the language entry button, or use the following keyboard shortcuts:
  4. Default: Alt+Shift+Ctrl+D
  5. Greek: Alt+Shift+Ctrl+G
  6. Hebrew: Alt+Shift+Ctrl+H
  7. Choose the desired options for finding words.
  8. Whole words: When selected, search for whole words only.
  9. Case sensitive: When selected, the search is case sensitive.
  10. Ignore diacritics: When selected, the search ignore diacritical marks when present.
  11. Ignore superscripts: When selected, the search ignores superscripts when present.
  12. Choose how you prefer to find and replace the text.
  13. Click Replace All to look for and replace all occurrences in the text in an edit window.
  14. Click Replace to find the next occurrence in the text.
  15. Click Replace & Find to replace the next occurrence and look for the next one in an edit window.
  16. Click Find, or press Ctrl+G, to find the next occurrence in the text in an edit window and replace it. (Leave the box on the right blank to delete the found text with nothing).
  17. Select the check boxes to limit the find to whole words, make it case sensitive, ignore diacritics and ignore superscripts.
  18. If desired, undo a Find/Replace: With the Edit window active, on the Edit menu, choose Undo, or press Ctrl+Z.
  19. Click the right arrow buttons in the Edit window to advance to the next found item, and the left arrow button to return to subsequent found items. Pressing Enter or Return will also advance to the next found item.
