Amplify

Amplify is a specific term used in Accordance meaning, "to select a word or reference and find it in another resource, without losing your place in the first resource." In the Accordance app Amplifying is similar to a triple-click in Accordance (on Mac or Windows).

  1. To Amplify to the default lexicon from a Key number or grammatically-tagged Text, simply triple-tap on a word in the Text.
  2. In all other cases, tap on a word or reference to open the Instant Details and/or Action menu.
    • Tap Amplify to open a new view and search the relevant resource.
    • Note: The amplify action (to Tools) and amplify/context action (to Texts) will update the contents of the second pane instead of opening a new view, if the panes are unlinked and the module in the second pane is the same resource being amplified to. This is particularly helpful to view references and lookups without losing the current place.

  3. Tap the Search button () in the new resource to modify the search or select another module in the same category to search.
  4. Swipe two fingers to the right to return to the previous view. This works even after a series of Amplify actions.

You can also tap the Back button (Back button for returning to previous view) at the top left of the display.

Amplify from… goes to?

When amplifying, the resource that opens depends on your selection. In each case if the word is not found in the top module (in that category in the Library), Accordance searches for the next one of that type until the selection is found. Each field of the content is searched, so the word may be found in the Contents rather than the Entry itself.

In general amplifying from...

  • any word without "tagging" opens the top dictionary of that language (English, Greek, or Hebrew).
  • a word with a Key number opens the related Key number dictionary. You can choose to search for the Word or the Key Number.
  • a grammatically tagged original word opens the top lexicon. You can search for the Inflected form, Lexeme, or Root.
  • a verse reference in a Text opens the top commentary.
  • a verse reference in a Tool opens the top Bible text with the additional pane last used with it.
  • an abbreviation link inside Instant Details opens the link in a second Instant Details pop-up.
