Custom Research Groups

The Research tab provides you with the option of performing a search using either default moduleClosed Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource groups or user-created User Groups. When none of these groups meets your needs, you can create your own custom Research Group. To create a Custom Research group and perform a group search, do the following:

  1. Open an empty Research tab by doing one of the following:
  2. On the File menu, choose New Tab>Research.
  3. On the Workspace toolbar, Click the Research Options pop-up menu in the Research box.
  4. Select Custom from the Research Groups pop-up menu. The Edit Custom Research Group dialog box appears.
  1. Select a Text, Tool, or User Tool from the appropriate pop-up lists. Multiple modulesClosed Any Bible text, or other single tool that can be read in Accordance, including reference texts and articles; may also be referred to as content or resource can be added. The module is added to the module selection window.
  2. Click Update to create a temporary Custom Group. A temporary Custom Group is created.
  1. From the Field pop-up menu, choose English, Greek, Hebrew, Syriac,Scripture, Image, or Unicode.
  2. In the Search Entry box, enter the word, phrase, or simple commands that make up the search criteria.
  3. If Greek or Hebrew is chosen, the appropriate font and direction are used automatically.
  4. Use the Search Entry pop-up menu to choose words or available search commands.
  5. When selecting the Enter Word item, note that the dialog box that appears depends on the Text language and tagging:
  6. For English text: The Select Words dialog box for the first listed English text is used.
  7. For grammatically tagged Hebrew or Greek text: The Select Lexical Forms dialog box is used.
  8. For non-grammatically tagged Hebrew or Greek text): The Select Words dialog box for the first listed text is used.
  9. Any search argument that does not apply to a particular module is ignored for that module.
  10. The search results are displayed in the Results pane of the Research tab.
  11. For Tool modules, Accordance searches each field of the appropriate language and displays the fields where hits were found in the Research browser.
  12. When searching grammatically tagged texts the lexical forms are searched unless the words are enclosed in quotation marks.

To save your Custom Research Group as a User Group:

  1. Select Custom from the Research Groups pop-up menu. The Edit Custom Research Group dialog box appears, displaying your selected Texts and Tools in the list window.
  2. Click Convert to User Group to create a permanent Custom Group. You are asked to enter a name for the Custom Group.
  3. Enter a name for the custom group. A new group is created and added to the Library under the My Groups category.

Example: Research for Adam <AND> Eve in a Custom Research Group

This example shows a search for Adam <AND> Eve in a Custom group composed of two dictionaries. The modules were opened (far right tab) for easily navigating between the hits.
